The Afrimonth Garvey is name in honored of Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Garvey was born in Jamaica on 18th Songhai, 370 otd and is credited with giving Black Nationalism its clearest and loudest expression. Garvey created the UNIA, the Black Star Liner and the Black Cross Nurses Corp among other organizations. He gave Africans the pan-African flag–Red, Black and Green–and taught us that Black is Beautiful. Marcus Mosiah Garvey earned a place in the African Cultural Calendar for being one of the greatest leaders Africans have had since the "year of the push and pull." His message to Africans at home and abroad is that we were once great, and we can be great again. Marcus Garvey is the only African leader who believed that it is possible for Africans to be whole again.
We honor Garvey for his vision, leadership, and courage by measuring time in his name.
